10 years

The Market Experience is a collaboration between Simon and Alyssa. Simon runs a travel company called Expique and initially identified the location in the Flower Market that is now the base for our school. Alyssa is a chef who has working in both Asia and Europe and runs her own food blog called Food & Arts by Alyssa.

What was your inspiration to get into cooking, food and teaching how to cook?

The inspiration behind the school was based on the unique location itself. The Flower Market is one of Simon's favourite places in Bangkok and when he stumbled across the space for rent, he got excited by the possibilities. The thought of running a cooking school from within the market itself was exciting!

What excites you the most about your work?

Alyssa loves to share her experience and passion for Thai food with others. Having worked as a chef in the past she now prefers to share her knowledge of Thai cooking whilst getting to interact with people from all over the world. Getting sent photos from customers of the food they prepared at home gives pure happiness!

How do you select the menu for you classes?

Authentic, creative and aroi! We try to present classic Thai dishes (as it is what most people want to learn) but in our own unique ways. Being based in the Flower Market we try to select dishes that we can adapt and even add edible flowers. We love getting creatives. Of course it has to be a dish that people will be able to make "Aroi" (Delicious).

What do you love the most about cooking?

If you want to understand Thai culture you should understand the food. Cooking is therefore at the heart of the Thai culture.
