Jolie Cooking Class

Since 2017

Bio

Jolie is a local woman from Hoi An who has been cooking traditional Vietnamese home-style meals for her family for many years. She believes the best way to learn cooking is by doing it yourself, using simple and fresh ingredients that can be found anywhere. Depending on the weather, guests may visit a local market or an organic garden before cooking together in her family home. Through food, Jolie loves connecting people, supporting her community, and sharing the real spirit of Vietnamese family life.

What was your inspiration to get into cooking, food and teaching how to cook?

Jolie started her home cooking experience to share the simple, everyday meals she cooked for her own family. Over time, she realised that many travellers wanted more than recipes – they wanted real connection, local stories, and a place that felt like home. By opening her kitchen and dining table, Jolie created a family-style cooking experience where people cook, eat, and learn together. This experience also helps support local women, farmers, and children in need through meaningful community activities.

What excites you the most about your work?

Happiness from teaching comes from seeing guests smile when they cook something with their own hands and enjoy it together at the table. It’s about sharing simple moments, stories, and laughter, just like in a real family. Jolie finds joy in connecting people through food and watching strangers leave as friends with warm memories of Vietnam.

How do you select the menu for you classes?

The menu is based on seasonal, fresh ingredients from local markets or gardens, and dishes that are commonly cooked in Vietnamese family homes. Jolie chooses recipes that are simple, balanced, and easy to recreate after the experience. Dietary preferences such as vegetarian options are considered whenever possible. Most importantly, the menu reflects what the family truly enjoys cooking and eating together

What do you love the most about cooking?

What Jolie enjoys the most about cooking is bringing people together around the table. Cooking is a way to slow down, share stories, and create simple moments of happiness. Seeing others enjoy a meal made with their own hands and feeling at home in her kitchen is the greatest joy.
